“East River Dreams”
East River, your dreams are many ...
from the lady with the flames of Liberty
that wave in our souls and arteries
swelling the veins of cardio-vascular spirituality ... to the max
Battery (Park) still has the memories of the lives of those
that clung to your piers with tears of desperation
for the awareness and insight into the depths of
evil, ignorance and exploitation
Many survived and returned to start a New Day
of clarity, hope and visions that showed us
that we were taller than our buildings and bridges
Spaceships and theories
the Wall (St.) of aspirations make the point of the (Manhattan) island shine
like an inter-galactic diamond of empires that permeate our motivation
to elevate our spirits to divine levels of glory, brilliance and immortality
many do get blinded and ... extinguish
South St. (Seaport) with its centuries of history
of an indigenous nation and waves of immigration
fish markets that fed populations of weavers
and vendors of the American soul
East River Dreams: Out of the desolation of the Lower East Side
a Puerto Rican mother walks with her children
in the streets under the Bridges to the rhythm of a million stitches
that she put into the hearts of all the people that she made clothes for.
Cruises up pass Houston (St.) and Bellevue (Hospital)
34th St. and the Empire State (Building)
42nd, Chrysler (Building), Dupont (Building), and the “United Nations’
without poverty, hunger and misery
the dignity of the “Upper East Side” and its Towers
seeps into the currents of rhythms and spices of Spanish Harlem
where the Afro-American, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Rican moves and modulations
have taught us to dance to the beat of a different drummer
East River Dreams: So many dreams, such little time ...
We’ll leave some for our Children !!!
